Focus and Scope

FOCUS

Epistemic publishes research articles in the field of education that are based on empirical data and clear analysis. The journal welcomes manuscripts that:

  • examine teaching and learning practices, educational policies, or institutional management
  • develop or test educational concepts, models, or interventions
  • evaluate educational programs, innovations, or implementations

Submissions do not need to be complex. However, each article must:

  • state a clear research objective
  • use appropriate and well-explained methods
  • present data that can be verified or traced
  • provide clear findings and meaningful implications

Articles that are purely descriptive, opinion-based, or lack data-driven analysis are not considered.

SCOPE

METHODOLOGY

The journal accepts the following research approaches:

  • quantitative
  • qualitative
  • mixed methods
  • experimental
  • action research
  • research and development
  • systematic literature review (SLR) with a clear and transparent protocol

Key requirements:

  • the method must align with the research objective
  • research procedures must be clearly described step by step
  • data analysis must be explicit and traceable

Narrative literature reviews without a systematic method are not accepted.

SCHOLARLY CONTRIBUTION

Each manuscript must demonstrate at least one clear contribution:

  • new findings based on empirical data
  • critical evaluation of a practice, program, or policy
  • a model, strategy, or approach that can be applied
  • a structured synthesis of previous studies (for SLR)
  • analysis that connects local findings to broader educational issues

For studies in local contexts:

  • explain what can be learned by other contexts
  • show how the findings can be adapted, compared, or transferred

A manuscript is acceptable if it has one strong and clearly explained contribution, even if other aspects are still developing.

AUTHOR GUIDANCE (IMPORTANT)

Before submitting, ensure that your manuscript:

  • clearly states the research problem and objective
  • explains the method and data source
  • presents results that answer the research question
  • provides interpretation, not just description
  • shows why the findings matter for practice or further research

Common reasons for rejection:

  • no clear research objective
  • weak or unclear methodology
  • descriptive results without analysis
  • lack of contribution or implications
